Easy DNA Extraction from Edible Oil — GMOs Can No Longer Hide
DNA testing is the primary method for identifying the source and detecting genetically modified components in edible vegetable oils (soybean oil, rapeseed oil, sunflower oil, and various blended oils). Due to DNA degradation caused by high temperature and pressure during the refining process, and the extremely low solubility of DNA in edible oils, extracting plant genomic DNA from edible oils is exceptionally difficult. Typically, plant genomic DNA in refined edible vegetable oil is present at only one part per billion to one part per hundred billion.
After extensive research, the technical team at ZD Biotech has successfully overcome this challenge by developing a simple and efficient plant genomic DNA extraction kit for edible oils, providing a rapid and effective tool for GMO testing and plant-derived DNA detection in edible oils. Using this kit, DNA can be extracted from 0.5 to 4 liters of edible oil in just 2 hours, yielding hundreds of nanograms to micrograms of high-purity DNA per liter — ready for direct use in various molecular biology experiments.
This method has been adopted by the General Administration of Customs of China as the GMO oil testing standard SNT1204-2016, making China the only country in the world capable of detecting GMOs in both crude and refined edible oils.
